EVTOL / ADVANCED / URBAN AIR MOBILITY (UAM / AAM)

 

BETA TECHNOLOGIES | BRISTOW GROUP


Bristow Group placed a firm order for five of Beta Technologies' ALIA-250 aircraft, with an option on 50 more. The 1,400lbs payload aircraft can carry five passengers plus a pilot, has a claimed 250 nautical mile range and reportedly "will be charged in under an hour using BETA's own charging infrastructure":



 

VERTICAL AEROSPACE


Vertical Aerospace released half-year 2022 financial results, noting that they'd completed construction of the company's first full-scale prototype VX4:



 

JOBY AVIATION


Joby Aviation announced Q2 results which included a net loss of $49.6m for the quarter (on operating expenses of $99.4m) and completion of the tail section for the company's first production-intent aircraft:



 

ARCHER AVIATION


Archer Aviation received a "$10 million pre-delivery payment for 100 of Archer’s production eVTOL aircraft" from United Airlines. Announcing Q2 results the company announced a $71.7m loss for the quarter (on $80.2m operating expenses) as well as completion of a Preliminary Design Review (PDR) for their four-passenger 'Midnight' aircraft - with 100 mile / 160km range and 1,000lbs / 450kg payload capacity - which it expects to certify in 2024:

eHang reported Q2 results, announcing a $11m USD net loss (on expenses of $12.9m), sale of 8 x units of the company's 216 'AAVs' and progress on certification of the aircraft with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), including 13 means of compliance for their unmanned EH216 aircraft (via eHang).

 

WISK


Wisk are "continuing [their] global expansion with the launch of a new engineering hub in Montreal, Canada. The hub will be dedicated to the ongoing development of [the company's] 6th generation aircraft (to be revealed later this year)" (via Wisk).

 

AGILITY PRIME | JOBY AVIATION


Joby Aviation expanded their contract with the US Air Force's Agility Prime programme by "more than $45m" - widening the partnership to include use case exploration with the US Marine Corps (via Joby Aviation).

 

AIRO GROUP | JAUNT AIR MOBILITY


Jaunt Air Mobility parent Airo Group progress plans to go public through Initial Public Offering (IPO) with submission to US Securities and Exchange Commission (via Jaunt Air Mobility).

 

AIRSPACE INTEGRATION TRIALS PROGRAMME | WISK


Following a "successful demonstration of airspace integration in a simulated environment...conducted in early 2022" the project partners of New Zealand's Airspace Integration Trials Programme (AITP) "are now working toward replicating this in controlled airspace.” The ten commercial partners include just one passenger carrying eVTOL aircraft manufacturer - Wisk.


The New Zealand "government doesn’t have a timeline for the operation of passenger-capable, uncrewed aircraft in New Zealand, but the regulatory process is progressing":

APTIMA | USAF


The US Air Force (USAF) awarded a contract to Aptima to help define standards for eVTOL pilot training. The company will "assist the Air Education and Training Command’s Detachment 62 (Det 62) to determine the pilot proficiencies and training needed for eVTOL operators" (via Aptima).

JAPAN AIRLINES | KANEMATSU CORPORATION | MITSUBISHI ESTATE | TOKYO METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT



"Mitsubishi Estate, which owns most of the Marunouchi financial district adjoining Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace, will be the primary project manager, offering its property to host experiments. JAL will take charge of feasibility studies and the planning of demonstration flights. Kanematsu will provide information on overseas technologies and regulatory trends, as well as work on vertiport development."

Harbour Air's eBeaver aircraft conducted a first successful point-to-point test flight; "the aircraft left their terminal on the Fraser River adjacent to YVR and landed in Pat Bay adjacent to YYJ...Take-off was at 0812 with ample reserve power upon landing at 0836":



 

CRANFIELD AEROSPACE SOLUTIONS | MOTUS VENTURES | SDF


Cranfield Aerospace Solutions announced unspecified new investment from California based Motus Ventures and the UAE's Strategic Development Fund (SDF) - the investment arm of the Tawazun Economic Council and "defense and security acquisitions authority for the UAE Armed Forces and Abu Dhabi Police" (via Cranfield Aerospace).

 

SAE INTERNATIONAL


Global engineering standards association SAE International announced the introduction of their first two standards documents "to enable electrified propulsion for aircraft":


ARP8676 - Nomenclature & Definitions for Electrified Propulsion Aircraft establishes common language on a new domain, new technologies, and new architectures that describe electrified propulsion aircraft to reach a common interpretation.


AIR8678 - Architecture Examples for Electrified Propulsion Aircraft categorizes electrified propulsion architectures and includes relevant examples
