The discipline
behind the graph

A knowledge graph is a representation of information. Knowledge Graph Intelligence is the discipline of building a knowledge graph that's useful and trustworthy - and the practice of a human or agent traversing it to surface answers with traceable provenance they can defend.

Where it starts

A knowledge graph consists of entities and the relations that connect them. A schema or ontology layer defines the data structure, determining what's represented and how. It might be facts about people, places or things - any information joined by connections can become a knowledge graph.

Well known examples include Google's Knowledge Graph, Palantir's Foundry ontology and the myriad internal enterprise projects built atop graph databases such as Neo4j and MemGraph. The practice of KGI sits as an abstraction layer above a knowledge graph.

A knowledge graph is an artefact. GraphRAG is the retrieval of answers from a graph. KGI asks the harder questions; What's in the graph? Why? And how did it get there?

Where the graph
isn't enough

Knowledge Graph Intelligence Is to a knowledge graph what intelligence is to information.

If Knowledge Graph is the noun to describe the artefact, KGI is the verb to define the discipline.

It's the practice of building, curating and traversing knowledge graphs to surface decision-grade answers.

Encompassing sourcing, ontology / schema design (and evolution), editorial judgement and graph traversal - KGI is a method. And it's an especially potent one in domains where canonical sources of truth do not yet exist.

The discipline is what makes a graph defensible; primary sources, confidence scoring and dated context maintained as the world moves.

What makes it
intelligence

What separates a knowledge graph from Knowledge Graph Intelligence? Four properties that together are the difference between data you can query and answers you can defend.

01

Entities and relations

The atomic unit isn't a document or a chunk - it's a fact connecting two things.

02

Primary sources

Every edge resolves to a citation a human or agent can audit; dated and confidence scored.

03

Editorial judgement

Curation decides what enters the graph and at what confidence - the moat that infrastructure alone can't replicate.

04

Traversable by humans and agents

A graph is intelligence only when an analyst, an operator or an agent can walk it - and defend their answer.

What KGI is not…

Four common misconceptions about Osinto's KGI work, and clarifications on what we're actually doing.

Built for

We're building a shared substrate for human and machine intelligence:

Human

Analysts

Who need to walk a thesis end-to-end and cite every step.

Human

Operators

Wanting a live picture of who's doing what, capital's deployed and what's about to change.

Machine

Agents

Requiring structured ground truth to plan, retrieve and respond without quietly hallucinating into the gaps from training data.

Why frontier
markets

Frontier markets are where primary sources are disparate, obscure, private and decay quickly.

No Wikipedia entry or LLM training cycle catches up in realtime. Databases and private markets aggregators don't capture and model the relationships.

Off-the-shelf knowledge graphs skim the surface, fail to deliver on detail and then stop.

Frontier market operators - from agencies and primes to investors and founders - can't afford to be wrong about who builds and funds what. Anecdote-grade answers aren't acceptable when there's real money on the table.

Skilfully curated knowledge graphs are the compounding asset that model frontier markets with confidence.

KGI at Osinto

Cloud Empire is our proprietary knowledge graph platform (in alpha).

The Osborne Report is where we publicly surface graph-derived insights.

Our Services are how operators can access graph-derived answers without having to build the practice in-house.

KGI is the discipline that binds all three together - we worry about semantics, ontology and confidence scoring, so you can focus on getting defensible answers to your most important questions.
