Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning (ML) enable us to yield powerful tools for managing and manipulating information - they serve already as both powerful augmentations to human intelligence and emergent (albeit narrowly specialised) intelligences in their own right.

 

Often, however, the outputs of automated systems aren't reliable - and that's a problem. How an ML model arrives at a given result can be unclear. The underlying processes used to achieve AI-accelerated results are often as opaque as the architectures of the systems or the data used to train them.

At Osinto we are exploring - with interest and intrigue - the plethora of new capabilities AI / ML systems enable. But we also believe that when gathering and processing information from which to provide reliable intelligence - be it commercial, geopolitical and/or mission critical - it's important to keep a human-in-the-loop.

 

We believe in the enduring power and value of the human mind - we value 'organic' intelligence as much as its synthetic counterpart. Working at the intersection of biological and artificial neural networks - weaving knowledge between our minds and digital data structures - helps us process and understand it better.

 

We call this messy, evolving process of humans and machines learning together - Augmented Intelligence.

OSINT: OPEN SOURCE INTELLIGENCE

Open Source Intelligence or 'OSINT' has come of age in the 2020s - it is nothing more complicated than turning publicly available information into actionable intelligence.

 

From near realtime battlefield information changing the face of warfare, to Large Language Models (LLMs) hoovering up vast archives of information from the web to create complex maps of semantics and meaning - the world is awash with information and, unfortunately, disinformation.

Making sense of this deluge of data is of course difficult - and that's our focus. Our Research and Intelligence projects focus on defining questions at the outset and delivering verifiable answers.

 

Delve through our archive of insights for just a few examples of how our OSINT Investigations can uncover surprising insights into anything from which li-ion batteries a competitor might be using to where the competition are buying their semiconductors.
